Come to the best Halloween party in Bali, on Saturday 30-October-2010.
No, this one is not at a beach. It's in Ubud...

Thank you to Mary K, her friends & family!!
My knitting friends at Yayasan Senang Hati (http://www.senanghati.org/) received generous donations of assorted yarns from Mary K, her friends & family from the USA.
Above: A baby afghan in progress. From yummy soft Sirdar Snuggly pink yarn with speckles of other colors - 4 skeins were donated.
Rotaractor Tika and Ibu Ayu working on their current projects. Tika is using Variegated (I think Red Heart) to make a "sideways" scarf - cast on 200+ stitches, then a wavy pattern (Old Shale - type). Ayu is using Navy Homespun for a top-down cap that will have a bit of a lace pattern at the brim.

Rotaractor Tika and Ibu Ayu display a scarf of modular blocks, made in 1.5 weeks by Ibu Eka from Gemala, using the same variegated that Tika is now using (there were 3-4 skeins!). Eka gave it to Yayasan Senang Hati to sell, and I think Tika will buy it as soon as Ayu gets their accountant to price it!
Dede, Ayu's son - just because he's such a cute little "ham".

Padded Clothes Hangers
My friends at Yayasan Senang Hati have already made some lace items for themselves (a small handbag, a scarf), so this was a VERY easy project - padded clothes hangers for displaying hand-knit tops. I provided plastic hangers, foam padding, and cotton yarn. They provided the labor.
Here is Omang, sewing the knitted strip around the foam and onto the hanger.
His wife Ayu displaying a completed hanger.
And Ketut showing a lace-bordered top that I made for myself, on one of her padded hangers!

Hand Knit Lace in Bali
Photos taken in my "studio" (aka the spare room in my Villa):
All of these items are made with cotton yarn purchased locally (manufactured in Surabaya on Java, I think).
Circular shawls, based on Marianne Kinzel's "Second Book of Modern Lace Knitting".

A full circle lace skirt in white, with a skinny-strap top and a coordinating short-sleeved shoulder shrug.
And I call this "Let's Salsa!" - a 3-piece set of ruffled skirt, skinny-strap top, and lace poncho - with "gold" beads just-because.
